Someone once told me that you can somehow measure a person’s “success” when they reach their 30’s.
I cringed. Thinking about it….
Around the age of 30, my parents already had a house built, three children, and a blossoming career/s. I am clearly not on the same page as they were. I try not to sound so cynical, but I figured faith does not need to deny reality.
At 30, I wish I figured things out by now. But we ain’t God, and it’s supposed to be that way, dear hooman.
At 30, it’s okay to feel lost sometimes. It’s okay if you don’t have everything figured out. It’s okay to not know the answers to your questions.
Life isn’t the movies after all. Where the lights go on and scripts are made. Where stars are shown and stars don’t age. Where plot twists are predictable, and endings are staged.
This is life. And most of the time, chaos comes before clarity.
Like an old rugged house set on general cleaning, the house gets dirty before things get squeaky clean. It’s chaos first, before clarity.
Like a book that’s published after years of brewing ideas. Experiences are logged as messy thoughts. Messy thoughts are detangled. Detangling takes a year, or a decade, or a lifetime. It’s chaos first, before clarity.
Feeling lost is like being in the middle of a whirlwind, The chaos brings much haze. But wait ’til the dust settles. It’s chaos first, before clarity.
At 30, we may be tempted to succumb to the nagging sense of dread and doom. But even at 30, hope isn’t lost. Things can be better. You can be better. It’s chaos first, before clarity.

Scene from Castaway
Bettina Peterson: You look lost.
Chuck Noland: I do?
Bettina Peterson: Where’re you headed?
Chuck Noland: Well, I was just about to figure that out.

Chuck was lost. And he lost himself too. He held tight to Spalding- a volleyball as his close friend. Like Chuck, we may feel lost, but thankfully, unlike Chuck, we don’t have a ball as a friend. We have a friend who is faithful and true.
Friend and Father. Able to guide the lost, and direct the wayward. Able to still the chaos and give clarity.
Tread the path. Treasure the walk. Trust all the way. Thank Him through and through.
John 15:15 I no longer call you slaves, because a master doesn’t confide in his slaves. Now you are my friends, since I have told you everything the Father told me.
Isaiah 29:24 Then the wayward will gain understanding, and complainers will accept instruction.
